DEVELOPING SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITIES

The CEDP is the heart of TB-SO and will coordinate the efforts of a large pool of volunteers from around the world to focus on the sustainable economic development of Treasure Beach. The CEDP will function partly as a "think-tank" and contribute to the ongoing work of community stakeholders and other local charities to develop a long-term plan toward sustainability.

INITIAL GOALS OF THE CEDP

  1. A community survey of individual visions of sustainable development
  2. A detailed assessment of the skills of the current labor pool
  3. A co-created report (with the citizens of Treasure Beach and outside economists focused on sustainable development) on the skills and services missing in the community
  4. An action plan to train willing individuals in these lacking areas
  5. Overall increased access to adult education and internships

LONG TERM GOALS

Lola's long term goals focus on community sustainability and utilizing tools from Permaculture design to create economic growth and a higher quality of life for Treasure Beach residents. Some of the proposed projects are:

  1. Offer trainings and internships at Lola's for locals to learn skills in the travel and tourism industry
  2. Work with volunteer guests of Lola's to offer workshops to locals in a variety of relevant disciplines
  3. Coordinate with locals and advise on setting up businesses to supply products needed by the resort such as bee keeping, essential oils, face and body products, additional organic crops, animal products, etc. and then advise on marketing their goods to other properties in Jamaica
  4. Work with local stakeholders to develop new sustainable attractions in Treasure Beach such as maintained hiking, biking, and riding trails, fishing holes, farm tours with produce stands, etc.
  5. If supported by the community, assist in creating a farmer's and craft market to provide produce to local residents and businesses and create a weekly event to draw visitors
  6. Develop Treasure Beach Arts
